Dubai is hot for much of the year. Temperatures are often above 40°C in July and August, so most outdoor activity moves to the evening. Many visitors prefer November to March, when the weather is warm but easier to enjoy outdoors. Hotel prices are usually higher in the cooler months and over Christmas and New Year, and often lower in the summer heat.
Many Dubai hotels add a tourism fee per room, per night, and sometimes service charges. Some resorts also charge extra for beach clubs or facilities. Ask whether your quote includes these or whether they are paid at the hotel. Breakfast is often a separate cost, so check the meal plan.
Flights from the UK take around seven hours. Dubai is three or four hours ahead of the UK, depending on the time of year. Check the entry requirements for your passport, and that your passport is valid for long enough, before you travel. We can quote flights alongside your hotel, and our guide to cheap flights from London covers how to find a good fare.
Dubai welcomes visitors, and local laws and customs differ from the UK. It is sensible to read the UK government's travel advice for the United Arab Emirates before you go, especially on dress in public places, alcohol and behaviour. Opening hours and dining can change during Ramadan, and its dates move each year.
Dubai is built around cars, and distances can be longer than they look on a map. The metro serves several areas, including parts of Downtown, Deira and Bur Dubai, and a tram serves the Marina. Taxis are widely available and metered, which is useful for evenings and for areas not served by the metro. When you pick an area, check how far you are from the places you want to spend your time.
